Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review

I have not been too pleased with the Phase 2 Marvel films. I thought Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 were both ok, but not great. They had story lines that did not particularly engage me, the villains were weak, and I was not completely satisfied with the films. This is not the case with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I loved most aspects of the film, but there were a few that fell flat. First of all, I was not sold on how Falcon got his wings. They quickly shoehorned it into the film, and I was not satisfied with their explanation. The other problem I had was with Toby Jones’s character. He played Arnim Zola, and I simply could not believe that he became an Artificial Intelligence. I thought it was a weak aspect of the storyline, and took me out of the film. However, I enjoyed everything else. The action is quick and powerful. There were a lot of practical effects, and it helped emerse me into the film. I really enjoyed the storyline, and thought it had some effective twists. I was on the edge of my seat, and am very excited to see where the franchise goes from here. I won’t dive into too many characters, but I will talk about Captain America and The Winter Soldier. I thought both Chris Evans, and Sebastian Stan did a great job. The Winter Soldier is one of my favorite villains that I have seen in a Marvel film, and Stan brought considerable depth to the role. Evans had some difficulty handling Captain America in the past two films he was in, but he nailed it this time. He was more believable, and truly made the role his own. There are two after credit scenes that are worth checking out as well. Overall, I really enjoyed this film. It is my favorite Phase 2 film (so far). Bring on the Avengers: Age of Ultron.
