True Detective Review

WARNING MILD SPOILERS:When I first stumbled upon this show, I did not know what to expect. I knew it was a show produced by HBO, and it starred two great actors: Matthew Mcconaughey and Woody Harrelson. The plot was barely revealed through the promotion for the show, so when I saw the first episode it was a fresh experience. I am so very glad that I gave this show a shot, because it is simply fantastic. I love almost every single aspect of this show. Before I gush over it, I want to get some negatives out of the way. First of all, there were some moments that needed some more time to get fleshed out. Particularly with the last couple of episodes where Rust and Marty were investigating the killer. I wish there were a couple of extra episodes so those scenes did not feel as rushed. The resolution was also something that I was not completely on board with, but after re-watching it a couple of times I definitely like it more. Now for the good stuff. The story for True Detective was so engaging, and it had me guessing up until the last episode. There were fantastic twists and turns, but ultimately the story was about the two main characters. Speaking of characters, I found all of the characters on the show to be very interesting. Of course, the most interesting is Rust, but I felt as if everyone was unique in their own way. The acting on the show is top notch, and I am sensing a showdown between Bryan Cranston and Matthew Mcconaughey for the Emmy this year. The camerawork on this show was also stellar. Especially during the one shot when all hell breaks loose in episode 4. Overall, I loved this show. I am glad that Rust and Marty’s story is done. Hopefully the upcoming season is just as stellar as the first. If you have not watched this show before, please give it a shot. You will not regret it.
